Sowing Time for Broad Beans

It is understood that the sowing time and cultivation methods for broad beans differ from place to place, and the temperatures required at different growth stages of broad beans also differ.

In the south, autumn broad beans are generally sown around October; along the Yangtze River, sowing time is concentrated between Cold Dew and Frost's Descent, meaning late October in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, mid-October in the lower reaches, late October in South China and Zhejiang, and early to mid-October in Yunnan and Guizhou and other places; winter broad beans are generally sown after the rice harvest.

In the north and northwest regions, spring broad beans are generally sown around mid-March to mid-April, that is, sown immediately after the soil thaws.

Before sowing broad beans, be careful not to choose a plot that has been continuously cropped, as it is prone to disease; choose high-quality broad bean seeds to ensure yield; before sowing, sun-dry the broad bean seeds for 1-2 days to increase seed viability and ensure the germination rate; the temperature at sowing must be suitable, and the suitable temperature for seed germination is between 16-25°C.
