Tomatoes are grown by sowing seeds. Before sowing, the seeds must be treated. The sowing method can be chosen from three types: broadcast sowing, row sowing and dibble sowing. The sowing time is determined by factors such as region, environment and climate.

Tomato planting steps:

1. Put the seeds into hot water at 55°c, stir until it reaches 30°C, then soak for 3-4 hours.

2. After soaking, place the seeds under conditions of 25-28°C to promote germination; once 60-70% of the seeds have sprouted, they can be sown.

3. First select seedling facilities such as a greenhouse, plastic tunnel or cold frame; to effectively prevent and control pests and diseases, the seedling area should be equipped with insect-proof and shade facilities; at the same time, prepare the nutrient soil well and disinfect the seedbed.

4. The suitable sowing period is from early February to late April; seedlings can be raised for transplanting, or direct sowing can be used; the sowing rate mainly depends on seed size and planting density. For every 667 m2 of cultivation area, the seed rate for raising seedlings and transplanting is 20-30 g, and the seed rate for direct sowing is about 100 g.

5. When more than 70% of the germinated seeds have broken through the seed coat, they can be sown. Before sowing, water the seedbed thoroughly so that it is moist to a soil depth of 10 cm. After the water seeps down, sprinkle a thin layer of nutrient soil, level the bed surface, and then sow evenly by broadcasting. After sowing, cover with 0.8—1.0 cm of nutrient soil. For every 667 m2 of seedbed, then use 8 g of 50% carbendazim wettable powder or 7 g of 50% seed dressing dual powder, mix with fine soil and sprinkle evenly and thinly over the bed surface to control damping-off.

The production period of tomatoes is from January to May each year, and October to December is the peak production period. Friends who like eating tomatoes should not miss it.
