What are the control methods for thrips infestation?

General News By Sophie Bennett 0 views
There are three control methods for thrips infestation, namely agricultural control, physical control and chemical control. Agricultural control involves clearing weeds in the field to reduce the source of the pest. Physical control can use blue sticky traps to trap and kill them. Chemical control can use 48% Lorsban 2000-fold dilution, or 2.50% Caixi (spinosad) suspension concentrate 1000-fold dilution

Agricultural control involves clearing weeds in the field to reduce the source of the pest. Physical control can use blue sticky traps to trap and kill them. Chemical control can use 48% Lorsban 2000-fold dilution, or 2.50% Caixi (spinosad) suspension concentrate 1000-fold dilution, or 48% spinosad (such as Cuisha) 5000-fold dilution, or 6% spinetoram (such as Ailüshi) 1000-fold dilution for control.

1. Agricultural control

Clear weeds in the field to reduce the source of the pest. Strengthen water and fertilizer management to keep the plants growing vigorously.

2. Physical control

Blue sticky traps for trapping and killing; their field application is the same as that of yellow sticky traps. Hang them between crop rows, at the height of the crop growing point or slightly above the growing point, using 30 to 40 pieces per mu. According to the number of pests in the field, promptly clean the pests off the blue sticky traps to achieve the best control effect. Because thrips have a strong tendency toward the color blue, this characteristic can be used to make thrips fly automatically toward the blue traps and become firmly stuck, thereby achieving the insect-killing effect.

3. Chemical control

When the pest count reaches 3 to 5 per plant, spray for control. You can use 48% Lorsban 2000-fold dilution, or 2.50% Caixi (spinosad) suspension concentrate 1000-fold dilution, or 48% spinosad (such as Cuisha) 5000-fold dilution, or 6% spinetoram (such as Ailüshi) 1000-fold dilution. Start spraying from the seedling stage, with an interval of 5 to 7 d between sprays. You can also use 20% Haoniandong emulsifiable concentrate 800-fold dilution, or 2.50% bifenthrin 1000-fold dilution + 70% imidacloprid 5000-fold dilution spray, once every 7 to 10 d, for 2 to 3 consecutive applications.
