Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Jishu 26 Sweet Potato Variety

Jishu 26 is a new high-quality fresh-eating type sweet potato variety bred by the research team led by researcher Wang Qingmei of the Crop Institute of the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The new high-quality, high-end, high-yield, high-efficiency edible-type sweet potato variety——Jishu 26, passed national appraisal in March 2014, combining the characteristics of high quality, high yield, disease resistance, and good storability. It has red skin and yellow flesh, and tastes excellent when eaten fresh right after harvest. In the spring sweet potato region, the average yield per unit area is more than 3500 kg; in the 2012 national northern regional trial, it ranked first in fresh sweet potato yield per unit area; in the 2013 national sweet potato industry technology system Liuxu Cup high-yield competition, its average yield per unit area was 3700 kg, winning second place in the high-quality group. This variety sets tubers in a concentrated manner, with 4—5 tubers per plant; it is resistant to stem nematode disease, root rot, vine cutting disease, and black spot disease, and has good storability. This variety is especially suitable for baking and steaming. The tuber shape is long spindle-shaped, with neat and concentrated tuber setting, and a commercial rate as high as 95%.

This variety is especially suitable for planting in Shandong and the Huanghuai sweet potato region's hilly and plain dry-thin land, and its market prospects are very broad.
