Where Are Sweet Cherry Producing Areas? An Overview of the Main Producing Regions
There are many sweet cherry producing areas, and they are grown throughout the Northern Hemisphere. In China, they are mainly produced on sunny hillsides or beside gullies in Liaoning, Hebei, Shaanxi, Gansu, Shandong, Guizhou, Henan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Sichuan and other places. At present, China's famous cherry varieties include Chuisi cherry from Nanjing, Jiangsu, Duanbing cherry from Zhuji, Zhejiang, Taishan cherry from Tai'an, Shandong, and Taihe cherry from Taihe, Anhui. Among them, Taihe cherry from Anhui is the most famous.
What types of sweet cherry are there?
1. Hongyan
It is an early-maturing, high-yielding sweet cherry. Its shape is a flat heart shape, the skin is pale yellow with a red blush, the flesh is relatively thick and juicy, and the flavor is sweet and sour. The flesh is rich in 15.4% soluble solids, and under natural pollination the fruit set rate is very high. They are suitable for pollinating varieties such as Hongdeng, Hongmi and Zuishangjin.
2. Hongmi
Their vines are relatively thick, and the fruit is mostly round and regular. The growth period is about 95 days. It is a new cherry variety bred from a cross with SY-28 as the female parent and H-339 as the male parent.
3. Hongdeng
It is a new variety bred by the Dalian Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 1963 by crossing Naweng and Huangyu, and was named Hongdeng in 1973. It is currently mainly planted and cultivated in Dalian, Liaoning and various parts of Shandong, and is one of the sweet cherry varieties with a relatively wide planting area on the market.
4. Zaohong
It generally matures around June and is an early-maturing cherry. After the fruit is fully mature, the skin is red, the flesh is plump and firm, and when bitten, the juice that flows out is also deep red. They do not have very high requirements for the growing environment and can resist cold and tolerate drought. They are mainly produced in the Dongting Mountain area of Jiangsu, China.
5. Zaodaguo
It has extremely strong cold resistance. Even in the cold seasons of winter and spring, it will not have much effect on their growth. The fruit matures relatively early, and the size is large and uniform, with relatively stable yield. It is an excellent early-maturing cherry variety.
6. Meizao
In China, the largest area planted with Meizao is in Zhuanghe, Jinzhou, Lushun and other areas of Dalian. Because of the large temperature difference between day and night locally, and the water and soil being rich in sufficient organic matter, the Meizao produced has an excellent taste. Their fruit is relatively large, the flesh is thick and of good quality, the fruit stalk is relatively thick and short, and the yield is large. The fruit cracking rate is low, making storage and transportation convenient. It is one of the excellent early-maturing cherry varieties.
7. Xianfeng
It originated in Canada. Its skin is purplish red with a strong gloss, the fruit stalk is short and thick, the fruit is relatively large, the flesh is thick and juicy, and the flavor is sweet and sour. The flesh contains 17% soluble solids. Its skin is thick and tough, making storage and transportation convenient, and market demand is relatively large.
8. Longguan
The fruit is relatively large and it is a new cherry variety. The average weight of a single fruit can reach about 6.8 g, and the largest can reach 12 g. Their fruit is broad heart-shaped, and the self-pollination fruit set rate is generally above 25%. Their yield is relatively high, and during the full fruiting period the yield can reach as high as 1200 kg/mu.
The above is the relevant introduction to where sweet cherry producing areas are. We hope it is helpful to everyone.
