Detailed Explanation of the Cultivation Methods and Techniques of the Shaggy Mane Mushroom
Cultivating shaggy mane mushrooms requires some cultivation materials, which are mixed in a certain ratio, with the moisture content kept at 60%-65%. Pile and ferment them by conventional methods, taking care to regulate the temperature and provide ventilation. In 30-35 days the mycelium can fill the mushroom bags. Make beds inside a plastic greenhouse or in open ground outdoors, fill them with nutrient soil, water thoroughly, and mushrooms will appear in about 20 days.
I. Cultivation Materials and Formulas
1. Rice straw 80%, dried cow manure 12%, gypsum powder 3%, lime powder 3%, superphosphate 2%.
2. Enoki mushroom spent substrate 60%, corncob 20%, cornmeal 1%, wheat bran 15%, bait gao 1%, lime 2%, superphosphate 1%.
3. Formula using corncob as the raw material
(1) Corncob 85%, wheat bran 10%, lime powder 2%, gypsum powder 1%, superphosphate 1%, urea 1%.
(2) Corncob 50%, bean stalk powder (wheat straw powder or corn stalk powder) 35%, wheat bran 10%, urea 1%, lime powder 3%, gypsum powder 1%.
(3) Corncob 40%, edible mushroom spent substrate 40% (crushed and sun-dried), wheat bran 10%, wheat chaff or chopped wheat straw 7%, lime powder 2%, gypsum powder 1%.
The moisture content in all the above formulas is kept at 60%-65%.
II. Bagging, Inoculation and Culturing
After the substrate is mixed evenly, adjust the moisture content to about 65%, and pile and ferment it by conventional methods. Use polyethylene plastic bags measuring 23 cm × 45 cm, and bag and inoculate by the mushroom-spawning method of 3 layers of spawn and 2 layers of substrate, with an inoculation rate of 10%-15%. Fill the bags so that the upper and lower density is consistent, and place them in a culturing room at 23-25 degrees Celsius for mycelial growth, taking care to regulate the temperature and provide ventilation. In 30-35 days the mycelium can fill the mushroom bags.
III. Casing Soil and Fruiting Management
Make beds inside a plastic greenhouse or in open ground outdoors, digging bed frames 0.9-1 m wide, 20-25 cm deep, and of unlimited length. Remove all the bag film from the fully colonized mushroom bags, cut the mushroom logs crosswise into two halves, and place them vertically with the cut face downward, with a log spacing of about 2 cm, and fill with nutrient soil, water thoroughly, then cover the surface with another 3-4 cm of nutrient soil, and water thoroughly with a fine mist. At a temperature of 12-24 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 85%-90%, primordia begin to appear in about 10-15 days, fruiting bodies form in about 20 days, and they can be harvested when they reach seven or eight tenths maturity. Generally 3-4 flushes of mushrooms can be harvested.
