A Detailed Guide to Unicorn Lotus Planting Techniques and Management Methods
Unicorn Lotus is propagated by tubers or seeds, and planting in April is generally preferable. Before planting, make beds and open furrows on the prepared plot, plant the tubers or seeds, then cover with soil and apply fertilizer. After seedlings emerge around June, carry out intertillage and weeding, fertilization, and drainage and irrigation, and by late September harvesting can begin.
Points to note when planting Unicorn Lotus:
1. Plot selection
Soil quality directly affects whether the Unicorn Lotus yield is high or low. If the soil texture and growing environment are very good, the yield increases accordingly. Unicorn Lotus has very few soil requirements; it can be sandy gravel soil, yellow clay, or debris soil, and soil with a lot of sand is not much of a problem either. But if you want high yield and good quality, the planting field should have gently sloping terrain, the land should drain well, and there should be sufficient sunlight.
2. Application of base fertilizer
When planting Unicorn Lotus, apply 2000-3000 kg of barnyard manure or compost per mu; after applying the manure, cover with soil level with the bed surface, with a soil covering depth of 4-5 cm, press down lightly, and use 20-25 kg of small tubers per mu.
3. Seedling stage management
The workload for managing and caring for Unicorn Lotus at the seedling stage is relatively small; it rarely has diseases and grows well. Most of the work is only irrigation, weeding, and pest control. During the peak growth of Unicorn Lotus, large amounts of fertilizer and water are needed. During this period, 30 kg of quick-acting fertilizer can be applied per mu. During the fastest growth period of Unicorn Lotus, a lot of water is also needed, and at this time the number and timing of waterings should be decided according to weather conditions.
If Unicorn Lotus is grown by sowing, the seeds can be purchased from a seed company; if grown from tubers, the small tubers produced around the corms in the previous year can be kept as planting material.
