Planting Methods for Pinellia

1. Site selection and land preparation

When selecting a site, choose a sunny, level spot, preferably deep soil that is loose, fertile, and well-draining sandy soil, with a previous crop of legumes or grasses. Once the plot is chosen, begin land preparation: first plow the soil 20-30cm deep, rake it fine and level it, then make beds 120cm wide, with furrows 30cm wide and 15-20cm deep; apply enough base fertilizer, using 2000 kg of fully decomposed farmyard manure or compost and 25 kg of superphosphate per mu.

2. Sowing and seedling management

Pinellia can be sown in spring or summer; spring sowing is best in February-March, and summer sowing is best in April-May. Open furrows in the beds and sow the tubers in the furrows, generally using 50-60 kg of seed per mu. After sowing, do not cover with soil; instead, scatter farmyard manure or compost over the seeds, then water once with clear manure water, and then cover with soil and level it.
