How to Plant Lily Seeds and Things to Keep in Mind
Lilies are well known for their graceful form and delicate fragrance, and they come in a wide range of varieties with rich colors. If you can grow a pot of lilies at home to enjoy, it is surely a wonderful thing. Today, the editor brings you the planting method for lily seeds and the things to keep in mind.
I. How to Plant Lily Seeds
1. Cultivation
First, put the prepared nutrient soil into the flower pot, filling it to half the pot's capacity, then place in the seeds. Usually the number of lily seeds planted in a pot is 3, and the seeds need to be covered with soil. Note that the spacing between the seeds should be as even as possible, because the flowers that bloom this way will have the most ideal form. In addition, after soaking the lily seeds in a product such as chlorothalonil, rinse them clean with water and then let them dry; flower seedlings grown from such seeds are more resilient.
2. Watering
After the seeds are planted, they need to be watered. Although lilies like a relatively moist environment, watering should not be too frequent; too much will cause the seeds to rot and affect germination and flowering. About one month after planting, they will sprout. Before the seeds emerge, do not water unless it is too dry. After the seedlings emerge, water appropriately, but do not let water accumulate in the pot.
3. Fertilizing
Since lily seeds mainly absorb the nutrients they have stored in the early stage of planting, no fertilizer is needed before planting out. However, after the seeds sprout, their growth speed increases, and they can generally grow to 70 cm in 2-3 weeks. Once the lily grows to 70 cm, its flower buds will gradually develop and then get ready to bloom. At this time, some organic fertilizer and high-potassium, high-nitrogen fertilizer need to be applied; an appropriate amount of fertilizer can promote the lily's growth and flowering.
4. Flowering
After the lily blooms, it no longer needs the same careful attention as before; simply give it an appropriate amount of water and sunlight.
II. Things to Keep in Mind When Planting Lily Seeds
1. Lilies like a warm, moist environment and can receive sunlight all day long, but the higher the temperature, the better is not always true; the temperature lilies can tolerate is 20°C. Because they are relatively fragile throughout their growth process, be sure to avoid damage from low and high temperatures, otherwise the lilies will stop growing or even die.
2. Be careful not to water lilies too much; just keep them moist. If excess water remains in the pot, it can easily cause the seeds and rhizomes to rot.
4. If too much fertilizer is applied, the concentration of the water solution in the soil will increase, which may cause fertilizer burn to the seedlings, so fertilizer should not be applied excessively either.
3. During the planting process, the period when the flower buds appear is also the time when the flowers are about to bloom. They can be placed in the sunlight and given an appropriate amount of water, but they must not be kept in the sun for a long time or exposed to scorching sun, to avoid sunburn on the flower buds.
The germination stage of lily seeds may take a little longer, but we just need to wait patiently and care for them attentively. I believe that once everyone has learned the above planting method for lily seeds, you will surely receive the most beautiful reward.
