Asparagus fern is also called cloud bamboo, mountain grass, and spiny asparagus; it is a green-leaf plant with high ornamental value. Its form is elegant and its branches and leaves are light, very tranquil, and it is very suitable for placing in a study or living room, with an elegant and quiet feel. Nowadays many people like to grow a few pots of asparagus fern, but various problems often appear, such as yellow leaves and wilting. So how should potted asparagus fern be grown to grow well? Let us take a look together below.

1. Sufficient fertilizer

For asparagus fern to grow well, it first needs sufficient nutrients. If nutrients are insufficient, the roots can easily lack fertilizer, making the whole asparagus fern grow thin and small or grow very slowly. Therefore, in spring and autumn, the number of fertilizer applications should be increased according to the growth condition of the asparagus fern, generally once a month, but the fertilizer must not be too concentrated. Use as little and as dilute as possible so that root burn does not occur. Fermented rice-washing water is a good choice for fertilizing.

2. Water on time

If the soil of potted asparagus fern is dry for a long time, it can easily cause the leaves to turn yellow or the growth to be too slow. If drought continues, it may even cause the whole asparagus fern to die. In addition, air humidity also has a great influence on the growth of asparagus fern. So when the potting soil becomes dry, it is time to start watering. Remember not to water heavily, otherwise water will accumulate at the roots. If it is summer with high temperatures and relatively dry air, you can spray some water on the leaves and around the plant, which can cool the leaves and increase air humidity, and naturally the growth will be better.

In winter, not only should you water less, but you should also fertilize less. This is because potted asparagus fern is not in its growing period in winter; it only needs to maintain life. So in winter, it only needs to be kept at a temperature not lower than 5°C to survive.

3. Replace the potting soil in time

If a potted asparagus fern has been grown for 1-2 years and the soil was not replaced in time when it was first planted, out of laziness, and the very hard, compacted

soil was used, and the soil is not fertile, it is very easy for poor growth, a thin plant, and yellow leaves to occur. So generally, for potted asparagus fern grown for two years, it is best to change the soil once a year.

When repotting, the decision should be made according to the root condition. If there are many roots, some of the old ones should be cut off. If there are not many roots, it can be repotted directly with the soil. Remember not to damage the roots, otherwise it will be very hard for it to survive. As for the flowerpot, choose one that is relatively deep, so that the roots have some space to grow, and choose relatively fertile potting soil.

4. Appropriate light

Potted asparagus fern does not like being exposed to strong sunlight or direct sun, but it also cannot be kept in a dark place without light for a long time, as this will also cause the leaves to turn yellow and growth to be slow. As long as there is a place with diffused light, asparagus fern can generally grow well.
