1. How do you grow sprouts?

1. Seed selection and soaking

For growing sprouts, the seeds generally chosen should be larger in size, fast-growing as sprouts, strongly disease-resistant, high in germination rate, good in quality, and highly adaptable to the environment. Before sowing, first select high-quality seeds free from insect damage, then rinse them twice with clean water and soak them in warm water at about 25 degrees. During soaking, change the water twice, and when the seeds' water absorption reaches its maximum, end the soaking and rinse off the mucilage attached to the seeds.

2. Seedling tray treatment

Before sowing, prepare the seedling trays and clean and disinfect them. First scrub them clean, then soak them in quicklime water, take them out after five or six minutes and rinse them clean with water, and finally spread a layer of substrate on the trays, after which sowing management can begin.

3. Scientific sowing

When sowing, make sure the seedling trays are kept consistent and the sowing is even. After sowing, do not knock against the trays, so as to avoid shaking the seeds and causing uneven sowing. Pour an appropriate amount of nutrient solution onto the substrate spread on the trays to moisten it, then evenly scatter the seeds onto the seedling trays to a thickness of about 1.5 cm. After sowing, move the seedling trays to a place with good ventilation and indirect sunlight.

4. Management after trays are set out

As the sprouts grow, the light intensity needs to be gradually increased. When the sprouts are harvested, the trays need to be moved into sunlight for growth. During the sprout cultivation process, water needs to be sprayed three or four times a day; for sprouts grown in winter and spring, only two or three sprays are needed. Note, however, that the amount sprayed should not be too large. Generally, the air humidity should be kept at around 85%, and ventilation should be carried out twice a day. If the temperature is relatively cold, short periods of ventilation are also needed. Generally, they can be harvested in about a week, and at this time the sprouts are very tender and have the best taste.
