What season is spinach a vegetable of

Spinach is divided into spring spinach, summer spinach and winter spinach.

1. Spring spinach can be sown once the temperature rises above 5°C in early spring, with March being the suitable sowing period; summer spinach is sown in stages from May to July, autumn spinach is sown from August to September, and overwintering spinach is sown from mid-October to early November.

2. Autumn sowing for overwintering and seed harvesting: in the Yangtze River basin, sowing is generally done in early to mid-November

The seed plants overwinter at the 5-7 true leaf stage, then in the spring of the following year they bolt, flower and set seed; seed harvested by this method is large and high-yielding, and is mainly used to propagate stock seed.

2. Winter sowing seed harvesting method: (used in the north)

The seeds overwinter in the soil and do not germinate that year (do not pre-sprout before sowing); they emerge successively in early March of the following year. With this method, seed yield is lower, but the land is occupied for a shorter time.

3. Spring sowing seed harvesting method: sow in March and harvest the seed the same year; seed harvested by this method is small and low-yielding (this method can be used for spinach varieties with weaker cold resistance that do not overwinter).
