How to Plant Peony Root Tubers? Detailed Planting Method
Before planting, first level the soil well. For ground planting, choose a good location; for pot planting, prepare the loam in advance. In autumn, dig out the peony roots, leaving the root tubers with buds for planting. Each root tuber should preferably have 2-3 thick buds. Choose the planting time around late August to September each year, dig small holes and put the root tubers in to plant, and pay attention to care afterward.
1. Leveling the Soil
Before planting, first level the soil well. If planting in the ground, choose a good location; a place with deep soil is good for planting, and it also needs plenty of sunlight. If choosing pot planting, prepare the loam in advance, preferably using nutrient-rich sandy soil, apply base fertilizer underneath, and ensure good drainage.
2. Selecting Good Root Tubers
In autumn, dig out the peony roots, choose plants in good growing condition, preferably with relatively thick roots of uniform length. Cut off the larger roots for medicinal use, and leave the root tubers with buds for planting. Each root tuber should preferably have 2-3 thick buds, so the survival rate is higher.
3. Planting Time
Generally, choose the planting time around late August to September each year. It should not be too late, otherwise the roots will have already sprouted, and planting them then will also affect the yield.
4. Planting
Dig small holes in the soil, apply enough water inside, cover with soil and press firm, then put the root tubers in to plant. The bud tips should face upward, and after planting, cover with about 10 cm of soil on top. After planting, pay attention to care. After the seedlings emerge, weed them, and pay attention to the prevention and control of pests and diseases.
