Main bayberry varieties grown in Guiyang:

1. Biqi

The ripening period is mid-to-late June. The average single fruit weighs about 9 grams. The fruit is oblate, purple-black, sweetly fragrant and juicy, of superior quality, with a small pit, and does not drop easily.

2. Dongkui

The ripening period is from late June to early-to-mid July. The fruit is irregularly round, with an average single fruit weight of 25.1 grams and a maximum single fruit weight of up to 51.2 grams; the edible rate is as high as 90—95%. When fully ripe, it is red or purplish-red, with a rich flavor and a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste, and it stores and ships relatively well. It is currently the most popular fresh-eating variety on the market.

Although bayberries are delicious, do not eat too many at one time, or you may get “acid-set teeth”.
