Metalaxyl is mainly used to control downy mildew of cucumber, Chinese cabbage, cabbage, onion, lettuce, etc., late blight of tomato, pepper and potato, and damping-off of cucumber and vegetables.

Metalaxyl is a systemic fungicide with protective and curative action, also known as Ridomil, Redomil and Apron. It is of low toxicity to humans and livestock and is safe for fish. Under ordinary conditions it can be stored for more than 2 years in a ventilated, cool and dry place. After application, metalaxyl resists rain washing and has a long residual effect; it can be absorbed by plants and, moving with the water within the plant, reaches all parts of the plant to kill pathogens. When used in the vegetable garden, it should be mixed or used alternately with fungicides such as dithiocarbamates and copper preparations, avoiding continuous single use.

Precautions:

① For spraying it can be mixed with protective fungicides such as dithiocarbamates to improve efficacy and reduce resistance.

② It is irritating to the skin, so protection should be worn during use.

③ The pre-harvest interval is 7 days; the permitted residue levels are 0.5 mg/kg for cucumber and tomato, 1.0 mg/kg for spinach, and 0.3 mg/kg for leafy vegetables.
