What pesticides are mainly used to control peach leaf curl?
Pesticides for controlling peach leaf curl. Mainly lime sulfur mixture, Bordeaux mixture, Tuzet, Pudejin, Baojiaxing, Antaisheng, Dafeng, Penfulu, Yibao, Dasheng M-45, Xinwansheng, Mengshasheng, Iprodione, Dashengfu, Teha, carbendazim, Namixxin, Jinlishi, etc.
Symptoms of peach leaf curl
The leaves that emerge first on the lower part of the new shoots are affected more severely, while leaves that emerge later are affected less. If the new shoot itself is not affected and the diseased leaves wither and fall off, the adventitious buds on it can still produce healthy new leaves. Affected new shoots turn grayish green or yellow, are shorter and thicker than normal branches, and are densely covered with diseased leaves; severely affected branches will die. After flowers and young fruit are affected, most of them drop off, so they are not easily noticed. Diseased fruit that does not drop develops unevenly, with blocky raised spots, yellow to reddish brown, and the fruit surface often cracks. This deformed fruit will also drop off before long.
Triggers of peach leaf curl
When temperatures are low during the bud-break period of peach trees in spring, peach leaf curl often occurs severely. Generally, when the temperature is 10~16°C, peach trees are most susceptible to the disease, while when the temperature is above 21°C, it occurs less. This is mainly because low temperatures slow the growth of young peach leaves, making host tissues less likely to mature, which facilitates pathogen invasion. Conversely, when temperatures are high, peach leaves grow faster, reducing the chance of infection. In addition, areas with high humidity favor the occurrence of the disease. In years or regions with low temperatures and abundant rain in early spring (the bud-break and leaf-expansion period of peach trees), peach leaf curl occurs severely; if early spring is warm and dry, the disease is mild. In terms of varieties, early-maturing peaches are affected more severely, while late-maturing peaches are affected less.
