How to Plant Camphor Tree Seeds? Detailed Planting Method
In late February to early March of each year, select plump, glossy seeds free of disease and damage, soak them for two days, then bury them in a moist soil pit to promote germination. After sprouting, evenly broadcast the seeds on a plot that has been previously prepared and fertilized, then carry out watering, weeding and other tasks. Generally, camphor tree seedlings emerge in about one month, at which point a shade shed should be built to prevent sunscald.
Points for Planting Camphor Tree Seeds:
1. Seed Selection and Germination
Strict seed selection is crucial. Choose seeds that are plump, glossy on the surface, and free of pests, diseases and damage. Seed quality determines the germination rate and also the final survival rate of the saplings. In addition, before sowing, it is best to soak the seeds for two days to soften them. Then remove the seed coat and use the moist stratification method. Bury the seeds in a moist, breathable soil pit to help the seeds germinate and show white.
2. Site Selection and Sowing
It is advisable to choose sandy loam with deep soil layers, and a rice stubble field with slight shade and wind protection as the nursery site. After plowing and sun-bleaching in early winter, harrow once lightly; in late winter and early spring, before sowing, carry out three plowings and two harrowings, and apply 1.5-2 tons of barnyard manure or 25-50 kg of cake fertilizer per mu, harrowing evenly as base fertilizer. Sow in shallow furrow rows, with a row spacing of 20-25 cm and a sowing rate of 10-12.5 kg per mu.
3. Seedling Emergence and Care
After the seedlings emerge, promptly remove the covering to prevent the seedlings from turning yellow. When the seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, thin them out. Thin early, thin in stages, and set the seedlings at the right time, setting them at a plant spacing of about 7 cm. The robust seedlings removed during thinning should be planted separately to save seeds and increase the emergence rate. After planting, pay attention to shading and watering care to ensure survival.
Camphor tree seeds generally mature in October each year, and can be sown in spring or autumn. The former is suitable after the soil thaws in early spring, while the latter can be sown immediately; at present, spring sowing is more common and also better.
