There are four planting methods for Rangoon creeper (Combretum indicum): seed planting, cuttings, layering, and division. Seed planting is generally carried out in spring and autumn; autumn sowing is done immediately after harvesting the seeds, while spring sowing uses seeds stored from previous years. For cuttings, select 20 cm-long vigorous two-year-old branches as cuttings, insert them into the substrate, and transplant after one year. Layering propagation involves selecting thick branches in early spring, covering them with soil, and transplanting once roots have formed. Division propagation mainly involves separating the roots of the Rangoon creeper and transplanting them.

I. Care of Rangoon Creeper

1. Temperature: Rangoon creeper likes heat and cannot tolerate cold; its suitable growing temperature is generally 20~30°C.

2. Soil and fertilizer: The soil for Rangoon creeper must be well-drained and aerated so that it can absorb more nutrients. Topdressing is needed at least three to four times a year, and the amount used each time does not need to be too large. Rangoon creeper before and after the fruiting period can each be given one topdressing.

3. Light: Rangoon creeper likes light and is also shade-tolerant. It must be given a certain amount of light every day, and it should not be placed in a dark environment for too long.

4. Water: Rangoon creeper likes moisture and cannot tolerate drought. During its growth process, keep it somewhat moist; do not wait until the substrate is completely dry before watering, and do not go for a long time without watering. In summer, when temperatures are high, more watering is needed to prevent water shortage caused by rapid evaporation.

II. Value of Rangoon Creeper

Research has found that the seeds of Rangoon creeper have a strong effect on expelling roundworms, and it is now one of the essential traditional Chinese medicines in roundworm-expelling drugs. In addition, Rangoon creeper can also expel pinworms, resist skin fungi, and resist intestinal parasites.

Rangoon creeper is not only ornamental but also has great medicinal value. Those who like it can try planting it themselves.
