Prepare high-quality seeds produced in the current year that are pest-free and plump. First soak the seeds in warm water overnight, remove them and cover with a wet cloth, rinse with warm water four times a day, and sow once most have sprouted. The planting site should be plowed, given a base fertilizer and trenched, with a trench spacing of 65cm and a trench depth of 10cm. After filling the trenches with water, dibble the seeds into the soil, keeping a spacing of 20cm, and fill the trenches level after planting.

Propagation Methods of the Jujube Tree

1. Cuttings

Generally, select robust branches as cuttings, cut them off and let the cut ends dry. Then insert the branches into a prepared, already moistened sand bed, and carry out subsequent care while waiting for the branches to take root.

2. Grafting

Jujube tree grafting includes bark grafting, bud grafting, cleft grafting, side grafting and so on. When grafting, first leave a cut on the rootstock where grafting can be done, then insert the prepared branch to be grafted into the cut, and wrap the grafted cut tightly with plastic film so that it successfully grafts and sprouts in an environment that preserves warmth and moisture.

3. Root Cuttings

In autumn, select a root segment 3cm in diameter and 25cm long from the jujube tree, and store it in sand in a cellar. When spring comes, after treating the root segment with rooting hormone, insert it diagonally into a dug trench, leaving only 2cm above the ground, then water it, and cover with plastic film so that it takes root and sprouts.

4. Root Severing

Before the jujube tree's crown develops, dig a trench of about 35cm*50cm around the outer edge of the crown. Then cut off the roots of the jujube tree that are 2cm or less in diameter, apply organic fertilizer in the root-severing trench and backfill it, and after root suckers grow, dig them out for treatment, then plant them.

5. Tissue Culture

First select young shoot stem segments for in vitro rapid propagation, take them to the culture room and add culture medium for cultivation, and after the test-tube plantlets have been on the rooting medium for 20 days, place them in a solar greenhouse for 10 days of cultivation, open the bottle stopper and harden the seedlings for 3 days, then transplant the seedlings onto a disinfected seedbed, and tissue culture propagation can be successfully achieved.

The planting process of the jujube tree is not short, and it requires patient cultivation to get the desired return.
