Heilongjiang has a long history of hemp cultivation; before the 1980s, the annual planting area was around 800,000 mu. At present, Heilongjiang is the province with the largest hemp cultivation area in China, accounting for more than 60% of the national cultivation area.

Relevant information about hemp:

1. Industrial hemp, also known as “hemp”, can be made into comfortable close-fitting clothing, skincare products, beverages, nutritional protein powder, and more. Through continuous research, using hemp roots, leaves, flowers, bast, stalks, and seeds, 50 different hemp products can be manufactured, covering multiple industries such as textiles, new materials, food, construction, and medicine. Cannabidiol can be extracted from the top 15 cm of the hemp plant for pharmaceutical use, with significant therapeutic effects on Parkinson's disease, cirrhosis, pediatric epilepsy, and many other diseases.

2. Hemp is light-loving and has strict soil requirements: the soil layer must be deep, with strong water and fertilizer retention, and soft, fertile soil is preferable. Heilongjiang's climate and soil quality are excellent, which gives the hemp fiber produced there good quality.

3. In 2018, Heilongjiang Province issued the “Heilongjiang Province Hemp Industry Three-Year Special Action Plan (2018—2020)”, listing the hemp industry as a cultivation target in new growth areas, with key focus on hemp cultivation advantage areas such as Qiqihar, Daqing, Heihe, and Suihua. Cities and counties including Daqing, Heihe, and Sunwu have all custom-tailored hemp industry plans for themselves. Among them, Sunwu County is known as the “Hometown of Chinese Hemp” and is the county with the largest hemp cultivation area in China.

The hemp industry has been listed as a cultivation target in Heilongjiang Province's new growth areas, and will play an important role in adjusting the agricultural planting structure and realizing “agriculture at the head, industry at the tail”.
