What to Do When Peanuts Get Root Rot? A Detailed Guide to Prevention and Control Methods
For peanut root rot, the first thing is to ensure good seed quality, select suitable seeds that are not moldy, carry out reasonable crop rotation, and drain and irrigate water appropriately; normally apply sufficient base fertilizer and promptly prevent and control the disease.
Prevention and Control Methods for Peanut Root Rot
1. Ensure good seed quality. Do a good job in seed harvesting, selection, sun-drying and storage; before sowing, turn and sun-dry the seeds, remove discolored, moldy and damaged seeds, and treat the seeds with 40% carbendazim wettable powder at 0.3% of the seed weight.
2. Reasonable crop rotation. For lightly affected fields, rotate crops every other year; for heavily affected fields, rotate crops for 3 to 5 years. It can be rotated with gramineous crops such as wheat and corn, and interplanting and relay interplanting with soybean and sweet potato should be avoided.
3. Timely drainage and irrigation. It is strictly forbidden to irrigate heavily during full bloom, before rain, or after a long drought. Do not carry out small shallow irrigation in the afternoon, so as to avoid scalding the peanut roots. After heavy rain, field drainage should be carried out promptly.
4. Apply sufficient base fertilizer. Increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and the farmyard manure used must be fully decomposed.
5. Pull out diseased plants. Once diseased plants are found in the field, they should be pulled out immediately and burned in a centralized manner. The planting holes of affected plants should be drenched with root irrigation for disinfection and sterilization to prevent the spread of pathogens. After the peanut harvest, promptly remove field plants and diseased residues.
6. Timely prevention and control of the disease. After full emergence, if diseased plants are found, immediately use spraying or drenching irrigation to apply chemicals and block the central diseased plants. Use 80% ethylicin 1000-fold solution together with foliar fertilizer for foliar spraying to control the spread of the disease. Alternatively, choose 70% thiophanate-methyl 500 to 800-fold solution or 85% trichloroisocyanuric acid soluble powder 1500-fold solution, spray once every 7 to 10 days, and spray or drench 2 to 3 times in succession.
