What are the cultivation methods for sweet corn?
The cultivation methods for sweet corn are similar to those for ordinary corn: choose fertile, loose soil, ample sunlight and convenient drainage and irrigation. First raise seedlings, then transplant them in a directed way after the seeds germinate. Fertilize mainly with base fertilizer, water thoroughly after fertilizing, and drain excess water from the field in time. During the growing period, pay attention to pests and diseases such as bacterial wilt, large and small leaf spot, and corn borer.
1. Soil: Sweet corn cannot be planted together with ordinary corn, and the soil must have sufficient fertility and strong permeability. Do the land preparation well, dig drainage and irrigation ditches, and expose the soil to the sun for ripening. One week before transplanting, apply sufficient base fertilizer, mix it thoroughly with the soil, and then level the soil.
2. Seed soaking: Soak the seeds in warm water at about 30 degrees for about 5 hours, then remove them and air-dry them. Then wrap them in a wet cloth and place them at about 33 degrees to promote germination. Once more than half of the seeds have sprouted, they can be sown.
3. Sowing: After promoting germination, it is best to use seedling pots for raising seedlings. Apply sufficient base fertilizer in the seedbed, and about 7 days before sowing, apply fully decomposed farmyard manure and an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer. Then finely rake the soil, and sow one seed in each nutrient pot.
4. Fertilizing: When transplanting, apply an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer in each planting hole and then water thoroughly to increase the transplant survival rate. After survival, apply an appropriate amount of farmyard manure per mu to meet the nutrients needed for seedling growth.
5. Watering: Field moisture should not be excessive, and accumulated water should be drained in time to prevent root rot. Weeding should also be done well so as not to affect the growth of sweet corn.
The cultivation method of sweet corn is relatively similar to that of ordinary corn, but sweet corn is more delicate, so its price is also higher and it requires more careful care.
