How to cultivate apricot trees? These technical key points must be mastered
Under fine management, apricot trees can grow for up to a hundred years. Apricot trees are highly adaptable and easy to grow. The efficient cultivation and management techniques for apricot trees are shared as follows:
1. Planting time for apricot trees
It is divided into autumn planting and spring planting. However, in Northeast China, Northwest China, northern North China and other places, due to the short frost-free period and cold winters, spring planting is preferable.
2. Digging the planting hole
The size of the hole is generally 80 cm × 80 cm × 80 cm. The topsoil and subsoil are placed separately on two sides. When backfilling, place 20-30 cm of straw or weeds, fallen leaves, etc. at the bottom, then backfill the topsoil. When half filled, mix organic fertilizer (50 kg per plant) with soil and fill it in. When filled to about 30 cm from the ground, firm the soil in the pit or water it so the soil settles, then cover with a layer of topsoil. When planting the tree, backfill the remaining part.
3. Preparation of seedlings
Select first-grade strong seedlings with well-developed root systems and prune the roots. For seedlings purchased from other places, soak the roots in water and let them absorb enough water before planting.
4. Planting
Place the seedling in the middle of the planting hole, align it left and right, and when one-third of the soil has been added, lift the seedling upward so the roots spread downward naturally. Note that the graft union should be slightly above the ground. Firm the soil, then add soil until level with the ground surface and tread it firm.
