To help pomelo trees preserve flowers and fruit, spray Sikao or amino acids + high phosphorus + boron during the flower bud stage (5-7 days before flowering). When two-thirds of the flowers have dropped, spray Sikao or amino acids + high phosphorus + boron + gibberellin + brassin. Besides spraying, proper fertilization is also one of the keys to helping preserve flowers and fruit. The fertilization techniques for pomelo during the flowering and fruiting stage are introduced below:

Fertilization techniques for pomelo

1. Flower-promoting fertilizer

To promote flowering, spray strong trees 2-3 times with 0.3-0.6% monopotassium phosphate during the flower bud differentiation stage (December); spray weak trees 3-4 times with 0.2% monopotassium phosphate plus 0.4-0.5% urea. A large amount of organic fertilizer, green manure, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should also be added, and the surface layer should be laid well to promote good development of horizontal roots, so as to facilitate early fruiting and high yield.

2. Bud-promoting fertilizer (flower bud fertilizer)

In February-March, apply mainly quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, such as human excrement and urine, urea, ammonium sulfate and other fertilizers.

3. Fruit-stabilizing fertilizer

Half a month before the second physiological fruit drop (June), apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer; human excrement and urine can also be applied, and a 1% calcium superphosphate extract can be sprayed. This can compensate for the nutrients consumed by flowering and the nutrients needed by young fruit, reduce fruit drop, increase the fruit-setting rate, and ensure a high yield.

4. Others

A water-soluble fertilizer of the flower-and-fruit-preserving type can also be applied. It can reduce flower and fruit drop, increase the fruit-setting rate of pomelo, improve the stress resistance of young pomelo fruit, and prevent competition for nutrients between flowering and fruit setting of pomelo trees, so that pomelo fruit can expand better.

If a pomelo tree shows relatively severe flower and fruit drop, the necessary pesticide spraying cannot be omitted. Under normal circumstances, however, if fertilization management is done well, unnatural flower and fruit drop is unlikely to occur, so growers must manage the fertilization of pomelo trees well.
