Phalaenopsis is a flower whose shape resembles a dancing butterfly. Its colors include yellow flowers with red spots, red dots, red lines, pure yellow, and white flowers with red centers, among others, and it looks extremely beautiful. So, how do you grow Phalaenopsis? Below, we introduce its cultivation methods and care knowledge.

1. Growing medium

Phalaenopsis is an epiphytic orchid that attaches to rocks or tree trunks with its aerial roots to grow. Do not choose plain topsoil or garden soil. Sphagnum moss, bark, tree fern roots, crushed brick and tile, coconut shell, fiber, and expanded clay pellets are better choices as a growing medium, with a pH of around 6.5.

2. Temperature

Phalaenopsis likes warmth and fears cold. The temperature should preferably not exceed 30°C; below 10°C it stops growing, and below 5°C it easily dies. When the temperature is low, provide heating; when it is high, cool it down. It does not particularly like strong light, so placing it in a spot with diffused light for daily care is sufficient.

3. Watering

Phalaenopsis likes a humid environment. During the growth stage, humidity should be above 90%; during the flowering-promotion stage, humidity should be around 70-80%; after flowering, humidity should be around 50%. When the temperature is high, water every day; when the temperature is low, just keep the soil somewhat moist. When watering, pay attention to alternating wet and dry, and water again only after the plant has dried out. If you find the leaves drooping softly after watering, try to raise the air humidity.

4. Fertilizing

Phalaenopsis quite likes fertilizer. During the growing season, apply a thin layer of liquid fertilizer once a month, mainly nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers, supplemented by nutrient fertilizers with trace elements such as magnesium, calcium, and manganese. When fertilizing, keep the air circulating to avoid the root zone being soaked in water for too long, which can cause suffocation. If the root zone is too wet, do not fertilize.

5. Pests and diseases

Common diseases of Phalaenopsis include soft rot, brown spot, anthracnose, sooty mold, and viral diseases, while pests include scale insects and red spider mites. Spray insecticides and fungicides regularly to prevent and control pests and diseases.

The above are the cultivation methods and care knowledge for Phalaenopsis, and we hope they are useful to everyone.
