How to Grow Black Goji Berry
There are three methods for growing black goji berry (Lycium ruthenicum): sowing, stem cuttings, and division. Sowing is generally done around the Start of Spring, and within three years the seedling will flower and fruit. Stem cuttings are generally done from April to October; the method is to select a vigorous water sprout or a branch with plump flower buds, cut it into 12cm cuttings, insert them into water, then firm the soil and water. Division is done in spring when the old plant begins to sprout.
Detailed methods for growing black goji berry:
1. Seed collection, seed-fruit processing, and seed storage. The seed collection period for black goji berry is from July to November. When the fruit turns from green to purple-black, it should be picked promptly, then sealed and transported to the designated location. After collecting the seeds, use the method of wrapping them in gauze, washing with water to thresh them, then rinse through a fine sieve. For drying, use air-drying or morning and evening sun-drying; avoid exposure to strong sun. For seed cleaning, use the manual cleaning method. After processing, store the seeds in a fiber bag in a dry, ventilated place.
2. Determination of seed quality. In addition to investigating whether the seed source is good, seed quality also requires testing the seed purity, thousand-grain weight, germination rate, viability, soundness, moisture content, and weight, among others. The main thing is to test and determine the germination rate of the seeds. The method uses the laboratory sample germination test. Seed soundness is judged based on the seed's appearance and internal anatomy.
3. Propagation methods. Seed propagation is the main method, but cuttings and root-sucker propagation can also be used.
4. Root-sucker seedling propagation. In spring, dig up the root-sucker seedlings around the mother plant and return them to the nursery for cultivation.
The above is an introduction to the methods for growing black goji berry. I hope it is helpful to everyone.
