Today's indoor decor is never complete without the presence of greenery, and the Zephyr lily (Zephyranthes candida), with its red flowers and green leaves, is an excellent choice. So how should it be cared for at home? Below, the editor of Tuliu.com gives you a brief introduction.

Growing and caring for the Zephyr lily:

1. Soil selection

The most suitable soil for the Zephyr lily should be a well-drained, humus-rich sandy soil. However, the Zephyr lily is a hardy plant and has low soil requirements when grown at home.

2. Planting

Zephyr lilies can be grown by division or by planting bulbs; both methods can be carried out in spring. Simply dig up the bulbs, plant 3 to 5 bulbs at each spot, and water to maintain appropriate moisture, and they will readily survive.

3. Temperature

The Zephyr lily likes a warm environment. Its flowering period is generally from June to September each year. Its optimum growing temperature is 16-28°C; it is not cold-tolerant, and the wintering temperature should not be lower than 5°C. If the indoor temperature can be kept above 15°C in winter, the Zephyr lily can continue to grow healthily and may even bloom.

4. Light

The Zephyr lily likes a sunny environment; if it is grown in shade, the quality of the bulbs obtained will be poorer. It can still bloom in partial shade, but the flowers are fewer and the flowering period is shorter. In excessively dark locations, it may fail to bloom at all.

5. Water and fertilizer

The Zephyr lily likes a slightly moist, somewhat dry soil environment; it is drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging, so keep the potting soil alternately dry and moist. Generally, reduce watering after September; from November to the following February, keeping it slightly dry and moist is sufficient. In addition, apply an organic fertilizer once every 2-3 months, such as a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer, compost, and so on.

Overall, growing and caring for the Zephyr lily is mostly about paying attention to light, water and fertilizer, temperature, and so on.
