There are many varieties of chrysanthemums, so they are classified differently according to flowering period, flower stem, color, petal shape, and so on. For example, according to flowering period they can be divided into summer chrysanthemums, autumn chrysanthemums and winter chrysanthemums; according to flower diameter they can be divided into large chrysanthemums, medium chrysanthemums and small chrysanthemums; according to color they are divided into single-color and bicolor, and so on. Chrysanthemum varieties

1. Summer chrysanthemum

The summer chrysanthemum is also called the wujiu chrysanthemum. It blooms once each in the 5th and 9th months of the lunar calendar every year. Today, with protected cultivation facilities, it can be made to bloom once each in May and October of the solar calendar. Common summer chrysanthemums include Liuyuehuang, Liuyuebai, Guifeihong, Xiaomiju, and so on.

2. Small chrysanthemum

The flower diameter is below 6 cm, belonging to the baby's breath type; it can be used as pot chrysanthemums, cliff chrysanthemums, tied chrysanthemums, bonsai chrysanthemums, and so on, for decorating gardens or display. Common varieties include daisy, wild chrysanthemum, small red chrysanthemum, chamomile, small yellow chrysanthemum, and so on.

3. Bicolor

Bicolor means that a single flower has more than two colors, and the color variation is also relatively rich. There are flowers with two colors in one bloom, such as the red-and-yellow half-and-half “Erqiao” and the red-and-yellow “Yuanyanghe”; there are those with two colors on the back and front, such as ”Jinbeidahong”, whose back is yellow and front is red; there are those whose petals have one color as the base with other-colored stripes or spots on top, such as “Meihualu”, which has a pink-purple base with white spots on it; there are those whose petal base is one color and tip is another, such as “Chixianjinzhu”, whose tube petals are red with yellow tips; and there are those whose center flowers are one color and outer flowers are another, but with little contrast, such as “Chufeng” and “Lushui”.

Besides their extremely high ornamental value, chrysanthemums can also be eaten and used medicinally. They have effects such as dispelling wind and clearing heat, calming the liver and brightening the eyes, and clearing heat and detoxifying, and can be taken internally or applied externally.
