Detailed Explanation of Key Points of Giant Rose Grape Cultivation Techniques
Giant Rose grape is a mid-season grape variety developed through breeding, with skin and flesh that separate easily, few seeds, and a unique rose fragrance. It can be planted as a companion mid-season variety. The cultivation techniques are described below.
Giant Rose Grape Cultivation Techniques
1. Building the Structure
Use a single-arm trellis with cement posts, setting one post every 5 m, with a trellis height of 2 m; run 4 lines of wire across the trellis surface, with the distance of the wires from the ground determined according to actual conditions. After the structure is set up, steps such as digging trenches and making beds, irrigation, and applying base fertilizer are indispensable and need to be adapted to local conditions.
2. Planting
Select high-quality seedlings, planting densely first and then thinning out; the planting density is determined according to on-site conditions, 160-180 plants/mu, or 220-250 plants/mu. In the year of planting, the main vines also need to be cultivated; after planting, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, yield setting, and leaf setting are also required.
3. Fertilizer and Water Management
After the seedlings sprout and grow to about 30 cm, when the first tendril appears, begin topdressing and irrigation, applying 10 kg of chemical fertilizer per mu, about once every 25 days, for a total of 4 applications; use urea for the first two applications and a three-element compound fertilizer for the last two. Irrigate once after each fertilization. In addition, appropriately control nitrogen and increase potassium; for medium soil fertility, the pure nitrogen amount is about 30 kg and the potassium oxide about 40 kg. Supply water according to the phenological period, combining fertilizer with water.
4. Pruning
Before flowering, adjust the flower cluster by removing secondary clusters, pinching off 1/4 of the cluster tip, and cutting off several larger upper branches. When the berries are as large as soybeans, thin the fruit by removing deformed, diseased, pest-damaged, and injured berries, leaving only 60 berries per cluster. In winter pruning, leave about 1000-1200 shoots per mu, with about 80% pruned to 6-7 buds as medium shoots and about 20% pruned to 3 buds, leaving about 7000 buds per mu.
5. Pest and Disease Control
Grape downy mildew, grape black pox, grape white rot, grape leafhopper, and other pests and diseases must be controlled in advance, and pesticides should be sprayed promptly on affected plants.
