Among the Clivia varieties, the large-flowered Clivia, garden Clivia, stemmed Clivia, marsh Clivia and yellow-flowered Clivia are all very good. Everyone can choose which to grow according to their own preferences, and below we will introduce its cultivation methods.

What are the cultivation methods for Clivia?

1. Choose suitable potting soil

Orchids are all plants that like humus-rich soil, so Clivia is no exception. Choose soil rich in humus, with good air permeability, good water permeability, fertile texture and slightly acidic (pH6.5); you can buy a ready-made mix, or make your own with materials such as leaf mold, pine needles and base fertilizer. For cultivation, when growing one-year-old seedlings, use a 3-inch pot.

2. Light and temperature

Clivia likes moisture and has low requirements for light; generally, just give it slightly weaker light, but remember that strong light must be avoided. In addition, in midsummer, build a shade to cool it down or move it indoors, and in the cold winter, do a good job of protection against the cold and keeping it warm. Generally, the temperature during its growth period should be controlled at 15-25°C, and during the flowering period at 15-20°C.

3. Watering

Clivia must not lack water during the entire plant growth period, and the water requirement is even greater once it enters the flowering period; the growing humidity should not be lower than 60%. Always pay attention to whether the potting soil is dry or wet; when it becomes half-dry, water it once, but the amount watered should not be too much. Keeping the potting soil moist but not soggy is just right. In addition, the water used to water Clivia is best rainwater, snow water or running water from rivers, with pond water second. If tap water is used for watering, it needs to be exposed to the sun for three days in advance.

4. Fertilizing

Clivia is generally repotted about once every 2 years, and at this time an appropriate base fertilizer needs to be added; during the growth period, fertilizers such as cake fertilizer, fish meal and bone meal need to be applied as a top dressing; liquid fertilizer can be applied in the early morning of spring and winter, with different fertilizers for different seasons; foliar fertilizer is generally applied by diluting the fertilizer and spraying it on soil-grown Clivia,

In addition, growing Clivia hydroponically is also a relatively good method. But note that the “water” used for hydroponics must be a prepared nutrient solution; never use tap water directly.
