The blooming season of Clivia lasts 30-50 days, mainly concentrated in the winter and spring seasons, and some bloom around New Year's Day and the Spring Festival. Its flowers are brilliantly colored, the plant form is elegant, and the leaves are verdant and upright, giving it high ornamental value. Below, let's learn about several common varieties of Clivia, so you can choose a variety to grow according to your preference.

Varieties of Clivia

1. Clivia nobilis

Clivia nobilis is native to southern Africa. Its flowers droop downward and are orange-yellow with a hint of pale green. The leaves are narrow and long, and the flower stalk is slightly shorter than the leaves. The leaf color is deep green, and its appearance is elegant and solemn. Its blooming season runs from December to May of the following year, and it can be used as a flowering plant for Spring Festival venue decorations, hotel displays, and home interior beautification.

2. Clivia miniata

The leaves of Clivia miniata are generally about 50 cm long, and the flowers are usually orange with a yellow-white center. Clivia miniata is a perennial herb. Its fleshy roots are white and unbranched. The basal leaves are numerous, leathery, alternate, neatly arranged in a fan shape, and evergreen. The stem is a shortened stem. The flowers form a determinate inflorescence arranged in an umbel, and the flower stalk is flat, fleshy, and solid.

3. Clivia robusta

Clivia robusta is a recently discovered Clivia variety with strong vitality and great rarity. It generally grows in sandy acidic soil and blooms from March to August (autumn and winter in South Africa). Clivia robusta growing in swampy areas and other places rich in humus generally reaches a height of up to 1.8 m.

4. Clivia mirabilis

Clivia mirabilis is a nationally protected species in South Africa. It grows either alone or in groups, often in humus within crevices on the slopes of mountains covered with stones. Its biggest difference from other Clivia varieties is that the center of each leaf has a white stripe, and its seeds take only 5 months to mature, while other Clivia varieties need 9-12 months.

Although orchids are among the more difficult plants to grow, as long as you handle the basics well, such as light, water and fertilizer, pest and disease control, and repotting, growing a pot of Clivia with red flowers and green leaves should not be difficult.
