When Is Carnation Blooming Season? A Detailed Guide to Flowering Time
Under natural conditions, the blooming season of carnations is from April to September. However, with proper cultivation and care, carnations can bloom all year round. Below is an introduction to carnation care methods to help your carnations bloom all over the branches.
How should carnations be cared for?
Pot cultivation and care:
1. Light and temperature
Carnations need at least 6-8 hours of light per day. If about 12 hours of light is maintained, it is even more conducive to photosynthesis in the leaves to produce nutrients, supplying sufficient nutrition for subsequent blooming. The most suitable temperature for carnations is between 13°C-25°C. Above 27°C or below 14°C, growth is slow. Therefore, during blooming-season care, keeping the temperature at 18-23°C is more conducive to continuous blooming.
2. Water and fertilizer
Newly planted carnations are generally watered once every 3-5 days, once every 2-3 days during the peak growing season, and in dry summer conditions they can be watered once a day. The specific watering interval and amount should be determined according to the dryness and moisture of the potting soil, keeping the loam slightly moist. Carnations are generally given liquid fertilizer once about every 10 days, which can promote blooming. In summer, it is best to suspend fertilizing, otherwise the plant may very likely wither.
3. Pruning
Reasonable pruning can promote blooming in carnations and can also multiply the number of flowers. When the plant grows to about 15cm-20cm, it can be pinched back, keeping 6-7 side buds. When budding, keep 1 side bud and remove all the side buds, so that more flowers can bloom.
Bouquets:
Using a sharp knife, cut off about 2 cm from the end of the stem to make the cut smooth and increase the water-absorbing area. Use clean water and a vase. Start with warm water treatment and add preservative. Insert the flowers into the water and remove the leaves and branches below the water line. If the flowers have wilted, they can be wrapped in wet newspaper for 2-3 hours. Do not place the flowers in a dry and hot place, especially in direct sunlight.
Carnations have rich flower colors and are not difficult to cultivate and grow. Friends who like growing flowers may consider them.
