A Complete Guide to the Key Techniques for Growing Shatian Pomelo
Growing Shatian pomelo requires good prior planning; choosing the orchard site, digging planting holes, and preparing fertilizer are all key steps, and after selecting good seedlings you arrange planting; the management work for Shatian pomelo differs at each stage, watering and fertilizing are decided as appropriate according to growth conditions, and pest and disease control should be prevented and avoided as much as possible so that the later harvest can go more smoothly.
Fertilizer management for bearing Shatian pomelo trees
1. Heavy application of post-harvest fertilizer: around the Start of Winter to Light Snow (November), in combination with soil improvement and hole expansion, apply a heavy dose of post-harvest fertilizer to restore tree vigor as quickly as possible, promote flower bud differentiation, and accumulate nutrients for fruiting the following year. When expanding the holes, apply 8-15 jin of Runtian bio-organic fertilizer, 0.5-1 jin of phosphate fertilizer, and an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer per tree; depending on the actual tree growth, you can also use 0.5% monopotassium phosphate for foliar topdressing and spray once with 0.2% boric acid to benefit flower bud differentiation.
2. Shoot-strengthening fertilizer: apply a quick-acting fertilizer once in February-March, with 0.5-1 jin each of urea and phosphate fertilizer per tree; after the spring shoots sprout, you can also use 0.5% monopotassium phosphate and 0.3% urea for foliar topdressing (spraying) to promote strong shoots and flowers. In early and mid-March, 0.3% urea and 0.5% monopotassium phosphate can be used respectively for foliar topdressing.
3. Fruit-setting fertilizer: in April-May, fertilize as appropriate according to tree growth, topdressing 1-1.5 jin of compound fertilizer per tree respectively; after mid-April, use 0.5% monopotassium phosphate for foliar topdressing, and after flower drop spray once each with 5ppm 2,4-D, 0.5% magnesium sulfate, and 300ppm fruit-setting hormone.
