Cabbage is a common vegetable, rich in a large amount of cellulose, and has the function of strengthening the human immune system. At present, in addition to growing cabbage outdoors, greenhouse cultivation is also a common cultivation technique. Below, let us take a look at the techniques for growing cabbage in greenhouses!

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before growing cabbage in a greenhouse, sufficient base fertilizer must be applied, mainly decomposed organic fertilizer, used in combination with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, to ensure that the nutrients needed for cabbage growth are sufficient and the plants grow vigorously. Combined with the application of an appropriate amount of calcium fertilizer, it can improve the plant's stress resistance and prevent the occurrence of tipburn.

2. Planting

Greenhouse cabbage is usually planted in late March. If the cultivation time is too late, the advantages of protected cultivation cannot be brought into play, and relatively high economic returns cannot be achieved. The planting density should not be too high, generally between 2,500 and 2,800 plants per mu; excessive density will instead affect the yield. Planting should be carried out on sunny days with higher temperatures, and a small amount of planting water should be poured after planting.

3. Seedling stage management

Cabbage is a vegetable of the semi-cold-tolerant type. Just after planting and during the seedling recovery period, it needs a relatively high temperature. The daytime temperature in the greenhouse needs to be controlled between 25 and 28°C, and not lower than 10°C at night, so as to facilitate the rapid growth of the cabbage root system.

After the plants enter the seedling hardening stage, the temperature should be appropriately lowered, kept at 20 to 25°C during the day, the amount of water should be controlled, and a new high-fat film should be sprayed on the leaves to protect the plants, isolate pathogen infection, and promote good seedling growth.

When cabbage enters the heading stage, it has a relatively large demand for phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and water. It should be watered and topdressed in time, and a vegetable stem-strengthening agent should be sprayed on the leaves to improve the plant's ability to absorb water and fertilizer, and promote thick leaves, strong roots and stems, and good growth. The soil is best kept alternately dry and moist, and heavy watering is not suitable. According to the rise in outside temperature, gradually increase the amount of ventilation, with the daytime maximum not exceeding 28°C.

4. Pest and disease control

During the growth period of greenhouse cabbage, downy mildew and black rot are relatively likely to occur. Disinfectants plus Husu Dajiangjun should be sprayed in good time for disinfection and sterilization, so as to eliminate the virus at the budding stage, enhance the resistance and immune positive energy of cabbage, and reduce the probability of pathogen damage.

5. Harvesting

The harvest period of greenhouse cabbage is generally in late April and early May. When the top of the cabbage head becomes flat and the head is firm, it can be harvested. For early-maturing varieties, the net weight of a single head is generally 1 to 1.5 kg. When harvesting, keep two to three outer leaves at the lower part of the head to protect the head, prevent squeezing and mechanical damage during transportation, and improve the commercial quality of the head.

When growing cabbage in a greenhouse, attention should be paid to controlling the temperature and humidity inside the greenhouse, as well as maintaining good ventilation. Overall, it is still relatively simple, and the market prospects are also good. Farmers who are interested can give it a try.
