Strawberries can be grown not only in soil but also by soilless cultivation. Today we will take a brief look at soilless strawberry cultivation techniques.

Soilless Strawberry Cultivation Technique

1. Choose the form of trough cultivation or bag cultivation. For trough cultivation, choose a trough body 80-100cm wide and 10-12cm deep, with vermiculite, sand, etc. as the substrate. For bag cultivation, use peat soil, etc. as the substrate, put it into nylon bags, punch holes in them, lay them flat on the ground, and plant one strawberry plant per hole.

2. The nutrient solution uses calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, magnesium sulfate and other trace elements as the main components, mixes them with water, and adds the mixture to the storage tank.

3. The selected strawberry varieties should have shallow dormancy, excellent quality, and high and stable yield, such as Fengxiang, Mingbao, etc.

4. You can obtain daughter seedlings from the mother plant for cultivation and seedling raising, or use plastic containers filled with substrate. When the daughter seedlings send out roots, guide them manually into the containers, cut off the stolons after rooting, and cultivate the young seedlings in the containers well.

5. After the seedlings grow 4 leaves, they can be planted for establishment.

6. During the seedling stage, apply nutrient solution 2 times per day, and the frequency can be increased as the plants grow and bear fruit.

7. The temperature for strawberry cultivation needs to be maintained at around 25°C during the day, and the nighttime minimum must not be lower than 5°C.

8. Soilless-cultivated strawberry plants also need the processes of flower thinning and removal of old leaves to promote fruit quality. During the flowering period, artificial pollination is also needed to increase the pollination rate and fruit-setting rate.

9. After the plants bear fruit, the stolons can be used as new plants for replanting.

The soilless strawberry cultivation technique can only be briefly introduced here. If actual operation is needed, it is advisable to consult relevant professionals.
