Detailed Explanation of Key Techniques for Growing Potatoes in Greenhouses
Potatoes are a common crop with high growing value and good economic returns. At present, growing potatoes in greenhouses has been widely used. Next, the editor will share with you the techniques for growing potatoes in greenhouses.
I. Seed Reservation, Seed Selection and Plot Selection
Potatoes kept for seed should be harvested when the plants have just flowered (late April). After harvesting, choose a cool, ventilated place with an attic and spread them out flat, strictly preventing snow grains from falling on them and preventing rodent damage. Select high-quality seeds and dress them with Xin Gao Zhi Mo (New High Lipid Film) to isolate pests and diseases and increase the germination rate. Choose sandy soil that is flat, convenient for drainage and irrigation, fertile and loose, and with good permeability for planting; a field where solanaceous crops or rice were not previously grown is best.
II. Land Preparation, Fertilization and Building the Greenhouse and Making Beds
Before sowing, plow the land deeply, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and open the surrounding ditches, middle ditches and ditches between greenhouses to facilitate operation, drainage and irrigation. If using a plot where a greenhouse was originally used for planting, apply quicklime plus Xin Gao Zhi Mo each year, close the greenhouse for sterilization and disinfection, and then sow.
III. Timely Sowing
Take out the potato seeds 20 days before sowing to promote sprouting. Generally, the plant spacing is 20~24cm, the row spacing is about 60cm, and slanted holes are dug. When sowing, place the seed potatoes that have sprouted about 7cm separately and slanted in the center of the holes, with the depth depending on the length of the sprouts of the seed potatoes. After the seedlings are sown into the holes, cover them with nutrient soil; the covering thickness should be such that the sprouts and seedlings are not visible. Spray Xin Gao Zhi Mo on the soil surface to preserve heat and moisture, prevent soil crusting, and increase the seedling emergence rate.
IV. Fertilizer and Water Management
From early sowing to before seedling emergence, keep the greenhouse closed for about 10d to maintain the soil temperature and humidity in the greenhouse and promote early seedling emergence. When more than 70% of the seedlings have emerged, begin ventilating to lower the temperature. Generally, full seedling emergence occurs 10~15d after sowing. After emergence, choose sunny days to shallowly loosen the soil, earth up and form ridges, and water in a timely manner, carry out intertillage and weed control, and fertilize reasonably. Before potato flowering, at the tuber formation stage and at the tuber enlargement stage, spray Di Guo Zhuang Di Ling once each in a timely manner, so as to effectively control excessive growth of the branches and leaves in the upper soil layer, accelerate the super-fast enlargement of underground tubers, enhance resistance to pests, and ensure high quality, high efficiency and a bumper harvest of potatoes.
V. Pest and Disease Control
At sowing or before tuber formation, use an appropriate amount of phoxim plus Xin Gao Zhi Mo to control underground pests. For pests and diseases such as aphids, 28-spotted ladybirds, early blight and late blight, spray targeted agents according to plant protection requirements for control, and at the same time spray an 800-fold dilution of Xin Gao Zhi Mo to enhance the efficacy of the pesticide.
Compared with open-field planting, greenhouse potatoes have better quality and yield, but we must pay attention to daily management.
