Our public life cannot do without turf. It not only greens our environment but also delights our lives. What methods are needed to cultivate turf into such large expanses?

Turf Planting Techniques

1. Site Preparation

Choose a good planting site. Turf plants have a fairly developed root system, so the soil layer must be thick, and the selected soil must be of good quality. Before planting, first clear away the weeds and stones on the land, then plow the soil, level out the uneven spots, and finally spread base fertilizer. Replace poor or mixed soil.

2. Planting Methods

1. Sowing method: Choose good-quality seeds and sow them evenly into the soil by machine. Before sowing, plow the soil and apply organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer. After sowing, cover with soil so that the grass seeds are in close contact with the soil. Spray-irrigate every day. After germination, spray-irrigate the lawn every few days. During the growth period, handle pests and diseases properly, and also pull out weeds and trim the turf.

2. Sod-laying method: Choose turf with strong growth, high density and a large area as the grass source. First cut the turf into parallel strips, then cut them crosswise into blocks as needed. The size of the grass blocks depends on the transport method and whether handling is convenient. The thickness of the grass blocks is 3-5cm. The turf should be laid tightly together with no gaps, or the seams can be staggered.

3. Grass stem broadcasting method: This includes the stem-broadcasting method, the stolon and rhizome broadcasting method, and so on. The main process is to lift the mother lawn, shake off the soil, cut the tender stolons and grass stems into 3-5cm pieces and broadcast them evenly into the leveled soil, then cover with soil and press firmly. After dozens of days of care, they will germinate.

4. Planting method: Propagating with plants is relatively simple and can greatly save the grass source. Generally, 1 sq m of grass blocks can be planted to 5-10 sq m or more. When the grass source is abundant, strip planting can be used. On the leveled ground, open furrows 5cm deep with a row spacing of 20-40cm, place the torn grass blocks in rows into the furrows, then fill with soil and tread firmly. Likewise, hole planting with a plant and row spacing of 20-40cm is also acceptable.

5. Vegetation belt laying method: Use non-woven fabric with a certain toughness and elasticity, spread seeds and fertilizer evenly on it, and then plant. It is generally produced continuously in factories using automated equipment.

3. Maintenance and Management

After planting is completed, maintenance and management are needed during the growth of the turf. Before the rainy season, transpiration is high, so watering is needed several times; when the rainy season arrives, watering can be stopped. To keep the turf emerald green in color and dense in growth, fertilization must be done properly. Nitrogen fertilizer is essential. Turf in containers does not need much pruning, but it needs trimming once it grows to a certain height. Remove weeds promptly when they appear.

Turf planting requires a certain amount of manpower and material resources, so in our daily lives we should not casually damage the turf that has been planted.
