Passion fruit is a very popular fruit with excellent sales on the market, and many fruit growers plant passion fruit. When does passion fruit bloom? How should it be grown?

1. When does passion fruit bloom?

Passion fruit planted in spring of the same year can bloom in July and bear fruit in September. From the second year after planting onward, it begins to bloom in April each year, producing 5-6 batches of flowers per year with 20 days between each batch. From flowering to fruit ripening takes 60-70 days, and the fruit harvest lasts more than 4 months.

2. How is passion fruit grown?

1. Temperature

The most suitable growing temperature for passion fruit is 20°C-30°C. It generally grows well at temperatures not below 0°C, but at -2°C the plant suffers severe damage or even dies. Areas with an annual average temperature above 18°C are most suitable for planting and are likely to achieve high yields. Therefore, it is widely distributed in the warm and humid regions of southern China, especially in Hainan.

2. Water

Passion fruit grows best under conditions of annual rainfall between 1500-2000 mm that is evenly distributed, while areas for commercial development and planting should have no less than 1000 mm. Passion fruit is fairly drought-tolerant, but irrigation is still needed during droughts. Soil that is too dry will affect vine and fruit development; in severe cases the branches appear withered, the fruit fails to develop, and fruit drop occurs. During the rainy season, pay attention to drainage.

3. Light

As a tropical fruit, passion fruit likes ample sunlight to promote vine growth and nutrient accumulation. Long-day conditions favor flowering in passion fruit. In areas with 2300-2800 hours of annual sunshine, passion fruit has good vegetative growth, accumulates more nutrients, grows vines quickly, fruits early, and yields abundantly. The most suitable growing temperature is 20°C-30°C. It generally grows well at temperatures not below 0°C, but at -2°C the plant suffers severe damage or even dies.

4. Soil

Passion fruit is highly adaptable and does not demand much from the soil. However, for large-scale production, the soil layer should be at least 0.5 m deep, and the soil should be fertile, loose, and well-drained, with a soil pH of 5.5-6.5 being suitable.

Passion fruit is very easy to grow for high yields, especially in the humid regions of the south, where high yields often occur. The prospects for passion fruit cultivation are still quite promising, and it is suitable for large-scale planting.
