Gardenia, also known as Zhizi or Huangzhizi, is mainly distributed in Guizhou, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Yunnan, Fujian, Taiwan, China, Hunan, Hubei and other places. Gardenia is mainly grown as an ornamental plant, so yellowing leaves greatly reduce its ornamental value. So what are the causes of yellowing gardenia leaves and the control methods?

1. Water

Water has a great influence on gardenia. During cultivation, if it is watered too much, the leaf surface will lose its luster and turn yellow-green, with a darker color. If it is watered too little, the yellowing caused by lack of water is lighter in color and looks very thin.

Control methods: We can decide the amount of watering according to the appearance of the gardenia.

2. Light

Nowadays many cultivation sheds built by flower growers have good light transmission, but gardenia does not need very strong light. Generally, indirect sunlight is best. Too strong light will cause yellow spots on the leaf surface. If the gardenia is placed in a hidden place, it will turn yellow or drop leaves because it cannot get enough sunlight.

Control methods: When the light is too strong, the gardenia should be moved to a place out of direct sunlight and observed for a period of time to see whether it recovers. When the light is insufficient, it is best to supplement light immediately.

3. Fertilizer

Special attention should be paid to the amount of fertilizer applied to gardenia. Although the fertilizer demand of gardenia is not very obvious, many flower growers do not pay much attention to the amount and concentration of fertilizer when fertilizing, and situations often occur in which too much fertilizer burns the seedlings or too little fertilizer causes the gardenia to wither.

Control methods: The solutions to these two situations are different. For fertilizer burn, the cultivation soil should be replaced and reconfigured; for lack of fertilizer, this is not needed, and the situation can be improved by appropriately supplementing fertilizer.

Cultivating gardenia is not too difficult. As long as you carefully understand the habits of gardenia, master the correct methods and doses of watering, light and fertilizing, observe its growth, and adjust in time when problems are found, it will be fine.
