When Is the Balsam Flower Blooming Season? A Detailed Guide to Its Blooming Time
Balsam flowers generally bloom from July to October. But different sowing times lead to different blooming times: for example, sowing in late March brings blooms from June to August, sowing in late April brings blooms from July to September, and sowing from late May to early June means it will bloom in time for National Day. Fellow gardeners, please note that the following four points should be kept in mind when growing balsam flowers.
1. An Introduction to Points to Note When Growing Balsam Flowers!
1. Water
Although balsam flowers like a moist environment, they should not be watered too much. You can keep the soil at a half-dry, half-moist level of moisture. In spring and autumn, watering once a day is enough, while in summer you can water once in the morning and once in the evening. When watering, note that if the soil is still fairly moist, do not water; wait until the soil has dried before watering again. Too much water will cause the balsam flower's roots to rot.
2. Temperature
Balsam flowers like a warm environment, so their suitable growing temperature is generally between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Because balsam flowers have poor cold tolerance, when the temperature is too low they should be placed indoors; especially in winter, too low a temperature will freeze and damage the balsam flower's roots and stems. If the temperature is too high and exceeds 32 degrees Celsius, the balsam flower's flowers and leaves will curl, and its growth rate will also become relatively slow. Growing at a suitable temperature can effectively shorten the balsam flower's growth cycle.
3. Light
Sufficient light is especially important for balsam flowers, generally more than eight hours of light. In spring and autumn, they can be placed in a sunny spot for a long time, while in summer, when the light is too strong, avoid direct contact between the balsam flower and strong light; it needs to be placed in a cool spot for shading. Too strong light will scorch the balsam flower's flowers and leaves. In winter, it can be placed in a sunny spot all day long. If there is not enough light, the balsam flower's growth rate will slow down, affecting its normal development and shortening its blooming period, and during its blooming period it will produce small flowers or fail to bloom.
4. Fertilizing
Balsam flowers like fertilizer. A small amount can be applied at the seedling stage, and during the vigorous growth period the frequency of fertilizing should be increased; a liquid fertilizer can be applied once every ten days. Liquid fertilizer can soak into the soil so that the roots can fully absorb nutrients. Note that fertilizing should be stopped during the balsam flower's blooming period and during the high summer temperatures. Before winter arrives, an appropriate amount of fertilizer mainly consisting of phosphate and potash fertilizer can be applied to enhance the balsam flower's cold resistance.
In short, sufficient light is relatively important for balsam flowers. Light and fertilizer can effectively promote their growth and can determine how well balsam flowers grow. Water and temperature, meanwhile, can control the speed of balsam flower growth. In a suitable environment, the balsam flower's blooming period can be effectively extended. As long as you remember these points, growing balsam flowers well is not a problem.
