The brown marmorated stink bug not only emits a foul odor, but also poses a huge threat to fruit trees and crops. So what pesticide can we use to eliminate them?

1. What pesticide to use to eliminate the brown marmorated stink bug

Pesticides available for eliminating the brown marmorated stink bug include: thiamethoxam, bifenthrin, endosulfan, methomyl, “741” smoke agent, diflubenzuron No. 3, chlorpyrifos, dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate insecticide, phoxim, etc.

2. The harm caused by the brown marmorated stink bug

The main targets attacked by the brown marmorated stink bug include fruit trees such as apple, pear, hawthorn, peach, pomegranate and citrus, as well as many kinds of forest trees, cash crops and vegetable plants. When attacking, both adults and nymphs pierce and suck the sap of leaves, young shoots and fruits. After leaves and young shoots are damaged, the tree vigor is often weakened. Damaged young fruits become deformed, and the affected areas often harden and taste bitter. They lose their edible value.

3. How to prevent and control the brown marmorated stink bug

1. To protect the fruit, the fruits can be bagged. Note that different fruit bags should be chosen according to the characteristics of different fruit trees. It is best to choose large fruit bags so that the fruit grows suspended inside the bag, with a 2cm gap between the fruit and the bag, to prevent the brown marmorated stink bug from causing damage through the bag.

2. In spring, carry out manual capture and killing to eliminate the overwintering adults; in spring and summer, destroy the pest egg masses; in autumn, carry out concentrated trapping and killing of the pests.

3. The natural enemy of the brown marmorated stink bug is the parasitic wasp. Egg masses of parasitic wasps can be collected and placed in a container (covered with gauze on top). After the parasitic wasps emerge, release the wasps back into the orchard.

4. In addition to the above methods, pesticides can also be used to eliminate the brown marmorated stink bug. In winter, 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate or 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate insecticide can be mixed with sawdust at a ratio of 1:3 and ignited to fumigate an empty orchard. During fumigation, doors and windows must be closed for more than 24 hours. Spray pesticide on the trees surrounding the orchard to create a blockade. If it is a period of high pest outbreak, then agents such as thiamethoxam, bifenthrin, endosulfan, methomyl, “741” smoke agent, diflubenzuron No. 3 and chlorpyrifos should be sprayed on the plants in a certain proportion to control the pest.

The prevention and control of the brown marmorated stink bug needs to be carried out throughout all four seasons, leaving neither egg masses nor adults untouched. When using pesticides, read the instructions first and do not use them blindly.
