A Detailed Guide to the Planting Season and Methods for Carrots
Carrots are a common vegetable in our country, and many people like to eat them. They are currently grown in most parts of our country, so what are the planting season and methods for carrots?
1. When is the planting season for carrots?
The best time to plant carrots is during the period from July 7 to August 23 each year. Of course, the planting time differs by region, and in some regions sowing begins as early as June, for example in the Northeast region.
2. What are the planting methods for carrots?
1. Choosing and preparing the land
Before planting carrots, you need to choose land suitable for their growth. Generally, crops that bear fruit underground need relatively loose soil that is fairly fertile and has good drainage and irrigation, and carrots are the same. When preparing the land, be careful to remove field debris and weeds as much as possible, level the land, break the soil up fine, spread farmyard manure as a base fertilizer, and then let it sit in the sun for a few days before sowing.
2. Sowing and fertilizing
The main sowing method for carrots is to first form the land into ridges and then broadcast the seeds along the rows of ridges. Before sowing, you can cover the surface with a layer of rapeseed stalks or corn stalks. It is best to sow after rain or on the day before rain, as this helps the seeds germinate.
3. Field management
Fertilizing is generally done for the first time when the carrot seedlings grow to four or five cm, in order to help the seedlings grow better. The second fertilizing should wait until the carrots begin to grow larger; at this time the fertilizer is crucial and strongly affects their growth. Next is to control the moisture in the field well. When it is relatively dry, water in a timely manner, and when there is a lot of rain in summer, go to the field and clear the drainage ditches so the water can drain away easily.
4. Harvesting
Carrots can be harvested in batches. According to their size, harvest the largest ones first, and the small ones can still grow rapidly after the large ones are harvested. Although harvesting can be done in batches, it must be done in a timely manner. Harvesting too late will affect the quality of the carrots; by then the carrots will be very old and not tender at all.
In short, carrots can be planted all year round, but as a seasonal vegetable they are generally planted in July-August. When planting, in addition to choosing good land and seeds, you also need to do basic management work such as water and fertilizer management and pest and disease control, so that the carrots can achieve a high yield.
