Kohlrabi and cabbage are both common vegetables and both belong to the cruciferous herb family. So what difference is there between the two? Let us explain below.

1. Kohlrabi

Kohlrabi is an annual or biennial herb of the Brassica genus in the cruciferous family. It is a famous specialty vegetable of China, originally from China, and a commonly cultivated vegetable throughout the country, mostly distributed in the provinces south of the Yangtze River. The main and lateral roots of the mustard plant are distributed within about 30 cm of the soil layer; the stem is a shortened stem, and the leaves grow on the shortened stem. They come in shapes such as elliptical, ovate, obovate and lanceolate, and the leaf color may be green, dark green, light green, yellow-green, green with stripes, or purplish red.

2. Cabbage

Cabbage is a plant of the Brassica genus in the cruciferous family, a variety of Brassica oleracea. Brassica oleracea is a biennial herb, and its root system is mainly distributed within 30 cm of the soil layer. The stem is shortened and is further divided into an inner and an outer shortened stem; the outer shortened stem bears rosette leaves, and the inner shortened stem bears head leaves. The leaves of Brassica oleracea include cotyledons, basal leaves, seedling leaves, rosette leaves and head leaves. The leaves range from dark green to green, with a smooth surface, thick fleshy tissue, and a powdery waxy coating that helps reduce water transpiration.

3. The difference between kohlrabi and cabbage

Different appearance: kohlrabi leaves grow on a shortened stem, the base is rather pointed, and the leaves come in shapes such as elliptical, ovate, obovate and lanceolate; cabbage has mostly basal leaves that are thick and smooth, wrapping layer upon layer into a spherical body with a flattened spherical shape.

Different edible parts: the edible part of kohlrabi is the root stem, while that of Brassica oleracea is the leaves.

In fact, kohlrabi and cabbage are still quite easy to tell apart, and I believe everyone will have a better understanding after reading the above.
