When is the flowering season of Jacaranda? A detailed explanation of the blooming time
The flowering season of Jacaranda is May-June, and the flowers are blue-purple. It is a tree species grown for ornamental value, foliage and flowers, and is widely used as a street tree. Below is an introduction to the cultivation techniques for Jacaranda.
Cultivation techniques for Jacaranda
1. Propagation
Jacaranda can be propagated by sowing seed when the temperature is kept at around 20 degrees, or by cuttings in spring and autumn, choosing semi-mature branches as cuttings; it can also be propagated by tissue culture.
2. Sowing
Before sowing Jacaranda, the seeds should first be soaked in warm water at around 30 degrees for 2 days, after which they can be planted in the soil, and seedlings emerge in about 20 days. Generally, fertilizer is applied once after the seeds are broadcast, and after the seedlings emerge a large amount of water should be given, along with weeding and loosening of the soil. When the seedlings reach 20 cm, they should be promptly filled in and thinned.
3. Water and fertilizer
It prefers fertile, moist sandy loam or loam. When planting out, apply sufficient base fertilizer; after it establishes, apply topdressing once each in spring and autumn, and carry out pruning and shaping once every early spring. Old, declining plants need heavy pruning. When grown in pots, the trunk can be cut back or grafted to dwarf it, and watering and nitrogen fertilizer application should be controlled.
4. Pest and disease control
Jacaranda has few diseases, and the main pest is the longhorn beetle. If reddish-brown frass is found at the base of the trunk, a small knife can be used to pry open the bark to catch the larvae; alternatively, before the adults appear, apply a mixture of 10 parts quicklime, 1 part sulfur and salt to the trunk below 80 cm from the base to prevent the adults from laying eggs.
If Jacaranda is grown by sowing seed, be sure to select seeds of the current year that are plump and full, so as to lay a good foundation for later growth.
