A Complete Guide to the Key Points of Red Heart Pomelo Cultivation Techniques
Red heart pomelo is a pomelo whose flesh is red. Compared with ordinary pomelo, it not only tastes good but also is more appetizing, so it is very popular among people. So what are the red heart pomelo cultivation techniques?
1. Site selection
Choose a relatively convenient traffic area to plant red flesh honey pomelo, and the planting site must not have ordinary honey pomelo trees, so as to avoid pollen mixing and thus affecting the planting quality of red flesh honey pomelo. At the same time, the soil layer depth of the planting site is required to be higher than 1 m and the groundwater level can be effectively controlled, and the soil pH value is around 4.5.
2. Seed selection
On the basis of pure variety, select varieties with no serious pests and diseases or mechanical injuries, well-developed roots, and no rot.
3. Planting and transplanting
For orchards on hilly land, the length, width and depth of the planting holes should all be kept at 1 m. After the planting holes are dug, they are divided into three layers, and green manure and weeds etc. are added to the bottom layer, while some pig manure and cow manure are added to the second and third layers. This can effectively ensure the sufficiency of soil fertility. At the same time, 10 days before planting, use decomposed pig manure and cow manure to build the mound surface. The height of the mound surface is about 30 cm, and the diameter of the mound surface is about 1 m.
During the planting period of red flesh honey pomelo, attention should be paid to the application of the planting method, carrying out the work by spreading the root system and straightening and compacting it, so as to improve the root growth efficiency. When planting and covering with soil, ensure the balance between the soil and the root stem of the red flesh honey pomelo, and at the same time use straw to cover the tree disk and water thoroughly.
4. Field management techniques
(1) Shaping and pruning: The tree form of red flesh honey pomelo is very large, so doing a good job in shaping and pruning is very important. We should cultivate about 4 main branches that grow robustly and evenly on each tree. Ensure that the main and side branches are evenly distributed and the tree crown is moderate. In the early stage, the main thing is to retain shoots. Shorten the vegetative branches to promote branching. When shaping, wooden sticks can be used to support the fruit tree, or ropes can be used to hang up the main branches. Ensure that the branches are even, the branches will not sink, and prevent topping out later. Also adjust the pruning method according to the tree age to ensure the growth of the fruit tree.
(2) Flower thinning and pinching: The amount of flowers and fruits of red flesh honey pomelo is very large, so flower thinning and pinching is also an indispensable management task in the planting process. Proper flower thinning and pinching can effectively reduce nutrient consumption, improve flower quality and fruit setting rate, avoid exceeding the bearing range of the fruit tree, promote fruit expansion, improve fruit quality, and expand planting benefits. Thin out weak flower branches of adult trees and aging trees, follow the principle of thinning the weak and preserving the strong, and no more than 5 flowers may be kept on each fruiting mother branch. Then carry out leaf removal on the vigorous shoots at the top of the tree crown, keeping about 5 leaves on each young shoot.
(3) Preserving flowers and fruits: In spring, the flowering and fruiting of red heart honey pomelo will be affected by some natural factors. Especially during the flowering period, high temperature and high humidity, water shortage, etc. will reduce the flowering and fruiting rate of the fruit tree. Therefore, we should strengthen management to preserve flowers and fruits and achieve high yield and high quality. In spring, the growth of branches and shoots all requires appropriate amounts of fertilizer, water and temperature. If nutrients and water are lacking, it will have a serious impact on flower quality and reduce the fruit setting rate. Therefore, we should water appropriately and carry out a second girdling on the fruit tree to preserve the fruit. However, it should be done appropriately according to tree vigor and tree age. Girdling trees with poor vigor may cause the fruit tree to age or even die.
(4) Water and fertilizer management: As just mentioned, the amount of flowers and fruits of red flesh honey pomelo is very large, so the demand for water and fertilizer is also relatively large. When fertilizing, we mainly control the fertilizer and nutrient ratio according to the tree age. For example, young trees should be given more nitrogen fertilizer to promote the growth of young trees. The main principle is to apply more frequently and in small amounts. Then, during the branch and shoot growth period, flower bud differentiation, and fruit development, several periods when the fruit tree has a large water demand, water in time to ensure soil moisture. The soil moisture content should reach about 60%. However, it should not be too much. When watering too much or encountering rainy weather, drainage work should also be done well.
In general, red heart pomelo is very easy to cultivate. As long as you choose good land, select good varieties, and plant the seedlings at a suitable spacing, then after successful planting, it is enough to do a good job in water and fertilizer management, pest and disease control, and so on.
