Growing Dendrobium requires choosing a location with good ventilation that is fairly shade-tolerant; you can choose pine bark, peat blocks, leaf mold, moss, etc. to prepare the substrate, then disinfect and sun-dry it before use. During the process of planting Dendrobium seedlings, pay attention to maintaining a moist soil environment; the moisture of the substrate is crucial; fertilizer requirements are relatively low, so just fertilize according to growth conditions as usual.

Growing conditions for Dendrobium

1. Site selection and land preparation

For Dendrobium planting sites, it is suitable to choose a semi-shaded, semi-sunny environment, with air humidity above 80% and winter temperatures above 0°C. If it is artificial cultivation, the environment can be controlled; tree species selected are mainly Huangge tree, pear tree, camphor tree, etc.

2. Propagation methods

The most commonly used propagation method for Dendrobium is division propagation, generally carried out in spring. Choose robust Dendrobium free of pests and diseases; during propagation, cut off the overly old roots, leaving 2-3 cm, separate the planting clumps, with each clump containing 2-3 stems, then plant them. Methods such as planting against rocks and planting against trees can be adopted.

3. Field management

If the air humidity is too low in the later stage after planting Dendrobium, water frequently to maintain moisture, and a sprayer can be used to water in the form of mist. During the growth of Dendrobium, attention should be paid to topdressing. The first time is around Qingming, mainly with nitrogen fertilizer mixed with pig and cow manure and river mud. The second time is around Lidong, using peanut cake, rapeseed cake, superphosphate, etc. added to river mud, mixed evenly and pasted on the roots; in addition, foliar topdressing can also be used.
