If Lobelia is planted in spring, the blooming season generally begins after July and can last about 100 days; if Lobelia is planted in autumn, it blooms in the spring of the following year, and the blooming season can last as long as 5 months. So how should Lobelia be cared for so that it blooms? Let's find out together below.

How should Lobelia be cared for so that it blooms?

1. Soil

Lobelia likes loamy soil rich in humus that is loose and well-draining. Generally, seeds sown at a temperature of 22°C can germinate after 20 days. Besides growing from seed, it can also be planted from small seedlings, and a certain amount of base fertilizer should be applied before planting.

2. Light

Lobelia is a long-day plant and needs to be guaranteed a relatively long period of light. In winter and early spring, when daylight hours are shorter, artificial supplemental lighting is needed for Lobelia.

3. Temperature

The suitable temperature for Lobelia's growth is between 15℃-18℃. Its cold tolerance is poor and it is also not tolerant of intense heat. Therefore, in winter, attention should be paid to cold protection and warmth, and to preventing frost; in summer, attention should be paid to heat protection and cooling, and to preventing exposure to the scorching sun.

4. Water and fertilizer

During Lobelia's growth period, water once every 7-10 days, following the principle of watering thoroughly only after the soil has dried out. Fertilization should be carried out according to Lobelia's growth needs; during the peak growing season, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied once a week.

5. Disease control

In caring for Lobelia, the key is to prevent and control mold and red spider mites. Fungicidal and insecticidal agents can be sprayed in advance for prevention and control.

In addition, the side buds of vigorously growing Lobelia should be pruned in a timely manner, which can control the plant shape and ensure smooth blooming.
