What are the efficacy and functions of cyflumetofen?
Cyflumetofen is a new benzoylacetonitrile acaricide used on fruit trees, vegetables, tea plants and other crops as well as flowers to control the main mite species parasitic on plants. The product is a 20% suspension concentrate. It is effective against both the eggs and adult mites of spider mites, with even higher activity against nymphs.
I. Physicochemical properties of cyflumetofen
The technical material is an off-white solid with no odour, boiling point: 269.2°C, melting point: 77.9-81.7°C. Vapour pressure <5.9×10-6Pa (25°C). Water solubility: 0.028mg/L (20°C). It is rapidly metabolised and degraded in soil and water, making it an environmentally friendly pesticide.
II. Mode of action and characteristics
Cyflumetofen is a new benzoylacetonitrile acaricide with no cross-resistance to existing insecticides. Cyflumetofen has a relatively low effect on preventing the hatching of red spider mite eggs, but it has very high activity against every growth stage, especially the larvae, with LC50 values against eggs, adult mites, larvae, first-stage nymphs and second-stage nymphs of 30 mg/L, 4.8mg/L, 0.9mg/L, 1.0mg/L and 1.9 mg/L respectively, and an LC50 value of 2.5 mg/L against larvae before and after egg hatching. At the same time it causes no phytotoxicity to any plant and is very safe for mammals as well as aquatic organisms, beneficial organisms, natural enemies and other non-target organisms.
III. Targets controlled
At present it is mainly used against citrus red spider mite. It is effective against cotton red spider mite and tumour-skin red spider mite, and controls red leaf mite and citrus red mite. It also has good control effects on pests such as diamondback moth, tobacco cutworm, striped stem borer, rice planthopper and green peach aphid, as well as on diseases such as rice blast, powdery mildew and downy mildew.
