How to Grow Dragon Bamboo So It Thrives More Vigorously? Practical Care Tips Shared
Dragon Bamboo (Dendrocalamus giganteus) is distributed throughout southeastern to southwestern Yunnan in our country. It is a type of bamboo that can be grown indoors and has high ornamental value. So how do you grow Dragon Bamboo so it thrives more vigorously?
How to Grow Dragon Bamboo So It Thrives More Vigorously?
1. Soil Culture
1. For potted plants, you can use a mix of leaf mold, garden soil and river sand, or you can use coconut coir, leaf mold, cinder ash with a small amount of chicken manure, peanut bran and compound fertilizer mixed as the growing medium. It is best to plant 3 to 6 plants per pot. For plants that have survived cutting, the key is to master temperature and humidity well.
2. During the growing season, keep the potting soil moist at all times. Do not let the potting soil dry out, especially in midsummer. Spray water on the leaves frequently. Too dry conditions will cause the leaf tips and leaves to dry up. In winter, the potting soil should not be too wet, but you should still spray water on the leaves regularly, and pay attention to cold and frost protection measures to prevent the leaves from turning yellow, shrinking and falling off.
3. Repot every 2-3 years, and apply a nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once every 20-25 days. Keep the potting soil moist to prevent the leaf tips from drying up. It is better to place it on a balcony facing away from the north and toward the sun. In spring and autumn, give it a proper amount of more light, 3-4 hours of light per day, to maintain the bright color of the leaves. In summer and autumn, provide appropriate shade, spray water once a day, and clean dust off the leaf surfaces, so that growth is more vigorous and the leaf color is greener.
2. Water Culture
1. Place it in a spot with bright, diffused light, and avoid direct harsh sunlight, because exposure to strong sun or dryness will make the leaf surface rough and scorched.
2. Do not place it next to a TV or in a place where an air conditioner or electric fan often blows on it, to prevent the leaf tips and leaf edges from drying up.
3. When the temperature is relatively low, change the water once every 7-10 days. In the peak growing seasons of spring and autumn, change the water once every 3-5 days. During the high-temperature period in summer, it is best to use cool boiled water for water culture, to avoid root rot or the breeding of algae.
4. To keep the leaves green and glossy, you need to add a complete-element compound fertilizer to the water. During the peak growing period, you can also apply liquid fertilizer or granular compound fertilizer 2-3 times a month.
Whether grown in water or in soil, careful attention is the reason Dragon Bamboo grows better.
