A new method for trellising tomatoes with hanging strings, growers come and take a look
Properly trellising can improve vegetable quality. In greenhouse tomato cultivation, the hanging string method is often used. Today let us learn about the new method for trellising tomatoes with hanging strings.
1. New method for trellising tomatoes with hanging strings
First, prepare the upper steel wire for the hanging strings above the greenhouse. At 20 cm from the ground, stretch a steel wire along the planting row corresponding to the upper steel wire. Fix the upper end of the hanging string in place, pull the lower end diagonally at 45-60°, and after pulling it tight, fix it to the lower steel wire. Then simply wind the tomato stems and vines around the hanging string.
2. Benefits of the new method for trellising tomatoes with hanging strings
The traditional hanging string method fixes the upper end of the hanging string to the installed hanging-string steel wire and ties the lower end to the tomato plant. With this vine-hanging method, as the stems thicken and more fruit sets, the hanging string often “cuts” into the tomato stems, affecting the normal transport of nutrients and water, and can even cut through the stems and vines, affecting normal plant development and causing other defects. The new method no longer needs to be tied to the stems. This not only avoids “cutting and injuring” the stems, but also makes operation very convenient when lowering the vines. This method can better satisfy the tomato's habit of liking semi-prostrate growth and is more conducive to tapping the tomato's high-yield potential.
Tomato hanging strings are mainly used for greenhouse crop cultivation. The above introduction is for reference only. Friends who are interested still need to consult relevant professionals before carrying out the operation.
